SEO Audit Pricing: How Much Does an SEO Audit Cost in 2021?
Not sure what you should pay for an search engine optimisation (SEO) audit? It’s an all-too-common question for businesses today, which is why this guide is a go-to resource for companies researching SEO audit pricing. Learn how much an SEO audit costs (spoiler, it’s $650 to $14,000 per audit), what it includes, and more with this handy guide!
What Makes the SEO Audit Cost Little or Very Much?
There is a steep difference between a $750 SEO audit (our lowest range) and $15,000 audits and it has nothing to do with tricking clients to pay more, just because they seem affluent enough to afford this.
We have provided affordable SEO audits to million dollar healthcare companies, just like we did with very small medical practices, so the company size had nothing to do with the how much their website audit cost.
Search Engine Optimisation Audit Prices Depend on:
- Size of the website (few pages or hundreds of content pages?)
- Deadline. Do you need an SEO audit done very quickly?
- Is it just a quick technical SEO audit?
- Would you need a keyword research and mapping work done, probably with content planning for the next 4 months?
- Do we also need to look at your competitors?
- How many pages are in your website?
A 10 page website’s SEO audit price will be different than what we would quote for a 5,000 pages medical portal, for instance. We charge less if you only need a quick backlink check or an export of your competitors keywords.
Not to mention that, if you signed up for our monthly medical SEO services for the next year, chances are you’ll get a free SEO audit, as it’s my first step in assessing your medical website and planning my strategies to rank you #1.
What is an SEO Audit?
Before we start talking money and time, let’s understand what an SEO audit means. An SEO audit is a complex testing and diagnosis we run on medical and business websites, in order to solve all their technical SEO issues and allow them to rank better in the search engines.
Search engine traffic is free traffic and, with a good SEO work done, there is a huge chance to grow your business online without spending a fortune on advertising.
The SEO audit benefits are clear, so it makes sense that, before you start you website or every once in a while, after you have launched, to get an audit and see if everything is in place.
How Much Does an SEO Audit Cost?
There are many tools we use in our daily medical SEO work, and they need to be paid for either monthly or every year.
So, when trying to price your SEO audit costs, here is how these numbers look like:
Screaming Frog SEO Audit Scan
This is one of the stages of our SEO audit and a full Screaming Frog license costs 200 bucks/year. No, you cannot use the free version, as we need to list ALL your website’s pages and connect the data to your Google Analytics and Google Console accounts.
This allows us to see how each of your pages are performing, see loading times and any blatant technical SEO issues that keep you from ranking properly.
So, we start with $200.
Competitor Analysis and Keyword Research
When I do competitor analysis (you need to find competitor keywords, to see how you can outrank them) and keyword research, the main tool I use is SEMrush. For a proper research and historical data, you will need the SECOND plan, which costs $200/month (a little more with taxes).
You can get a free trial account, but, if you are serious about your SEO work and auditing, you will have to pay for at least one month.
This gets your SEO audit costs to $400 already.
And we haven’t finished.
Backlink Audit
For this I use at least 2 separate tools. One is SEMrush and the second one is Majestic. You can also use Ahrefs or MOZ, but it would already cost you way too much.
So, at least a basic strategy for backlink analysis would be to run SEMrush (which you supposedly already paid for) and Majestic. The smallest plan in Majestic, that would allow you to do your testing is $50.
This means that, only with some basic tools, you will need to pay almost $500 bucks just to do some of the SEO Audits we do.
What do you do with all this data?
Usually, when running our SEO tools for the clients’ website audits, we export tens of thousands of data rows.
There are countless sheets of data and conditionals that allow me to show my clients the exact performance/page, where they need to make improvements and whether their website is up to par in order to rank better.
A proper SEO audit, together with our 1 hour video call usually takes at least 10 hours of solid work.
With an hourly rate of $50, which is already shockingly small for an experienced SEO consultant, you are looking at at least $500 worth of work. Of course, depending on your own hourly rate, the cost of your SEO audit would increase dramatically.
Add to this the fact you are probably not versed into SEO work, so you will be slower in desciphering data and reading all these performance metrics.
What I can do, after 20 years of online work and hundreds of SEO audits in 10 hours, will probably take you way more time.
How Much Does an SEO Audit Work as a DIY Job?
If you don’t count the actual work you will do, expect to pay at least $450 just to secure some of the tools you will need.
Of course, if you’d like to take into account the hours you don’t work on your business/medical practice, but waste with this audit, you’ll add at least $500-$1000 to these costs. This is lost income, due to not focusing on client work, but doing your audit.
For high income earners, the numbers can easily skyrocket. A therapist for instance, who makes $300/hour, will actually waste time doing SEO audits, when they can easily earn this money back in few hours of patient meetings.
How Much Does an SEO Audit Cost in Large Companies?
A medical SEO company that employs tens or hundreds of SEO experts, that runs big offices and has a huge overhead, will surely bill you extra for all this. It’s impossible to run such an enterprise and sell $250 audits.
This is why, when dealing with big companies, their pricing includes the overhead as well, not only their profit margin. When you employ tens of people and rent huge offices, all these expenses are found in the pricing.
Expect to pay at least $2,000 or even more for an audit job.
How Much Does an SEO Audit Cost in Small SEO Companies?
We run a small medical SEO company and have kept a lid on all useless expenses. Our team works remotely most of the time, we don’t use fancy offices and I don’t even drive an expensive car.
This allows us to price our audits at 1/10 or even less, without any loss of quality. What we do here, at The Medically, is up to par with any competitors, it’s just that our pricing is more customer friendly.
As most of our customers have been hit really hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, we make sure that our prices allow them to benefit from top notch medical SEO services, and also be able to save money for other commitments.
