Dental care for baby teeth & gums

Kids dental care health general information Sydney.

It is necessary to start cleaning the child’s oral cavity from the moment the first tooth erupts.

The first method used for cleaning teeth is rubbing.

An adult performing this procedure must carry out it quickly, efficiently and safely, for which it is necessary to position the child so that he can clearly see the teeth being cleaned and be able to restrain the child’s movements. This procedure can be done by one or two adults. In the first case, the child must be placed on the knees and the arm bent at the elbow – just as it is done when breastfeeding a child.

In the second case, adults sit facing each other. The child is placed on closed knees; teeth cleaning is carried out by the one who is in relation to the child “at 12 o’clock”, the other at this time holds the arms and legs of the child, soothes him with stroking movements, affectionate speech, etc.

The incisors are wiped with damp gauze, directing the movement from the gum to the incisor cutting edge. Rubbing is carried out 1-2 times a day. As the child adapts to the procedures in his oral cavity, they begin to use a brush: preferably a brush with a small head, soft bristles, which corresponds to the characteristics of the child’s oral cavity

Kids tooth

Three stages can be distinguished in the development of a child’s teeth:

  1. laying and formation of dental germs;
  2. “Distribution of roles” between dental tissues;
  3. the formation of tooth tissues and their complete maturation, that is, mineralization; this period is the most important, since with complications of pregnancy or the unfavorable condition of the mother, the baby develops various dental diseases of the teeth and not only.

The baby’s teeth begin to develop as early as 6-7 weeks of the mother’s pregnancy. And the beginning of the mineralization of his milk teeth, namely the anterior group, occurs at 17–20 weeks of mother’s pregnancy. The canines and chewing group of teeth begin to mineralize from about 7–7.5 months of intrauterine development and continue throughout the first year of a child’s life.

When the first teeth appear at the crumbs, you need to purchase:

  • baby wipes for the oral cavity;
  • silicone fingertips for cleaning children’s teeth.

You need to brush your baby’s teeth at least once a day, and preferably two, from early childhood teaching the child to oral hygiene.

Quite a little time will pass – and you will have to go through an amazing quest to teach your baby to brush your teeth, and perhaps you will even encounter children’s caries. We will talk about this in detail next time, but for now we lean on dairy products and make sure that the diet of both the mother and the baby has enough calcium and fluoride, which are necessary for the full development of teeth.

It is necessary to visit a pediatric dentist as soon as the first 2-4 teeth appear or a year. The doctor will examine the shape, size and color of the teeth, give recommendations on their care.

Start caring for baby teeth as soon as the very first tooth appears.
